This is the cone topiary form of the Meta Japanese Yew, Podocarpus macrophyllus, also known as Buddhist Pine. It is a dense, upright growing shrub or small tree with handsome, dark green, needle-like evergreen foliage that provides a unique texture and form in the landscape. Though it naturally grows 20 feet or more in height and 10 feet or more wide, this cone has been trimmed to a more formal shape that can be maintained over the long term with one or two trimmings annually to keep it as a small formal tree 6 to 10 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide at its base. It is perfect for an outdoor Christmas tree! It can be grown in the ground or containers, which can be brought indoors for overwintering for gardeners above USDA Zone 7.
