Dig a Hole: Dig a hole deep and wide enough to submerge the Olla, leaving just the neck and opening (about 1–2 inches) exposed above the dirt.
Planting: Position your seeds or transplants in a circle around the Olla. Place thirstier plants (like tomatoes, squash, and melons) closer to the pot, generally within 12 inches of the Olla wall.
Pack the Soil: Gently pack soil tightly around the submerged pot to eliminate air pockets, ensuring roots can easily reach and contact the moist clay.
Fill and Cover: Fill the vessel to the top with water. Always cover the opening with a rock, saucer, or solid lid to prevent evaporation and stop mosquitoes from laying eggs in the standing water.
